Your fetus now weighs about 2 kg, roughly an aye-aye: a nocturnal lemur from Madagascar that looks assembled from spare parts, with huge ears, glowing eyes, shaggy fur, and one impossibly long, skeletal middle finger.

That finger is a marvel. The aye-aye taps along a branch several times a second, listening for the hollow echo of a grub tunnel under the bark, then gnaws a hole and fishes the grub out, the only primate known to hunt this way.

Its unusual looks have unfairly earned it a reputation as a bad omen in some traditions, which has not helped an animal that is already endangered.

Meanwhile, inside you

Your fetus this week has bones that are hardening, though the skull stays soft and flexible so they can pass through the birth canal. Their immune system is also getting a boost of antibodies passed from you.
